The IBB golf course has been upgraded to guarantee an inch perfect playing conditions for the week-long Captain’s Cup Tournament which begins on April 15.
The outgoing captain of the club, Tony Azogu said that the committee devoted tremendous effort towards reclaiming the course which has been transformed with attention given to the expansion of tee box, greens and levelling of bunkers.
Azogu also said that the workshop has undergone a complete makeover, while par 3-hole 16 has been transformed to add to the beauty of the course.
In addition, the waterways bordering three holes on the course - 9, 12 and 13- have been dredged by engineers of a construction company while work is on going at the 14th.
The clearing of the waterways is to protect the course from flooding given that the rainy season is approaching.
As part of the Captain’s Cup activities, all the 20 in-house professional golfers will compete on April 16, while the following day, a commemorative kitty will be held in honour of the captain.
The main tournament will hold on April 20 and will feature 400 players and all serving captains of the golf clubs across the country.
The Captain’s Cup is organized to bring to an end the tenure of the committees in the men and lady sessions.
Airtel, Phase3 Telecoms, Shell, Pinnacles, Bolingo Hotel and Towers and Dantata and Sawoe are some of the sponsors of this year’s tournament.
