Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola, has urged Muslims in the state to continue to pray for the success of his administration, just as he declared that it was only prayers that could solve all the problems ravaging the country.
Aregbesola, who stated this at the weekend, during a programme tagged: “The Nation Prays,” which was organised by the state chapter of the Joint Muslims’ Action Forum (JOMAF) in Osogbo, the state capital, said: “I just want your prayer for me and I do not need your cause.” He also called for unity among religious faithful in the state.
The governor, who also noted that only prayer would solve the problems facing his administration, thanked the organisers of the programme for deeming it fit to organise a prayer session for the country particularly Osun State, praying that God would reward the organisers abundantly.
He commended the courage of Muslim faithful on the protection of their religion, urging that only God should be glorified by human beings.
He also called for religious tolerance among the people of the state.
The governor vowed that his administration would continue to embark on the thing that will bring progress, development and growth to the State.
Delivering his lecture at the event, a university don, Professor Lakin Akintola, prayed for unity, prosperity and lasting peace in Nigeria, commending Aregbesola for declaring Hijrah holiday for Muslims.
Akintola, who is a lecturer in the Department of Religion Studies, Lagos State University, lamented that Muslims were not many in the state government, saying it was unacceptable to Muslims community in the state.
He added that Muslims in the state have enough human materials to occupy positions of authority.
While calling for the renegotiation of development, he canvassed for the convocation of a Sovereign National Conference (SNC) where people of the country would be allowed to discuss the future of Nigeria.
