INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega
By Onyebuchi Ezigbo
Leaders of the 28 political parties recently deregistered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have denounced the action of the commission, describing it as null and void.
The leaders, who expressed their outrage at the INEC's action during a press conference Thursday in Abuja, accused the commission of reckless abuse of the constitutional process.
The Spokesman of the aggrieved parties and the national Chairman of African Liberation Party (ALP), Chief Emmanuel Okereke, said the INEC Chairman went ahead with deregistration of parties in utter disregard to the subsisting court order to the contrary, thus acting in contempt of the Federal High Court.
He said the parties have resolved to ignore the deregistration and to go ahead with its normal activities pending the final decision on its court case challenging INEC's action.
