A lady director in the Federal of Ministry of Communications, who was a former Deputy Director with the Police Pensions Office, Mrs. C.U. Attang, was Wednseday arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as part of the ongoing investigation into the billions of naira scam in the Police Pensions Office.
THISDAY source, who said Attang was arrested yesterday after investigation, revealed she had been involved in the illegal withdrawal of monies amounting to several billions of naira without been caught. She was still being interrogated as at press time.
She was said to have issued and authorised the cashing of thousands of cheques running into several billions of naira between 2007 and 2008.
An EFCC source confirmed the arrest of the former deputy director but declined to give further details.
The latest discovery involving the former deputy director not only underscores the herculean task facing the EFCC and its operatives, but also the enormous state resources being stolen by a few corrupt Nigerians.
