The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four armed bank robbery suspects, recovering about seven AK 47 riffles with 700 rounds of ammunition, 59 AK 47 magazines, three pump action guns and a police uniform belonging to an inspector of police who was killed on Tuesday.
Upon arrest at the Ajangbadi area of the state, the gang was said to have confessed to killing the inspector and an assistant superintendent of police during an exchange of fire in one of their operations.
The police also recovered one single barrel gun with a hundred and fifty-one cartridges, one K2 rifle, one Lar rifle with twenty rounds of live ammunition, one magazine, five pieces of dynamites and other bomb accessories.
Confirming the arrest yesterday, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Umar Manko said the suspects were arrested by 9.30am on October 10, by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Area ' K'.
He said, "The area commander received information that a group of young men suspected to be robbers were in a white Toyota Sienna space bus with plate number AMC 347 AE and two Lagos state commercial buses at Dapo bus stop along Adaloko Jakande, Ajagbandi , in preparation of an armed robbery operation.
"ACP Adeshina Soyemi led a team of policemen to the scene and immediately the men saw the police, they started firing sporadically .
"But due to the superior fire power of the policemen, the robbers were over powered and three members of the gang named Alli Kadri , Victor Alegbe and Joseph Nna were arrested and a large cache of arms recovered from them, while other members of the gang fled the scene."
