Plateau State government has condemned in strong terms the fresh onslaught on Fulani in Barkin Ladi area of the state describing it as a “very disturbing incident, especially against the background of peace building in that area of recent”.

A press statement issued by the state Commissioner of Information, Mr. Abraham Yiljap in reaction to the killing of three Fulani in the area by suspected Berom youths, added that “the people were already beginning to enjoy the benefits of robust security deployments and sensitisation.”

He said the Sector Commander of the Special Task Force (STF) has already been directed to investigate and bring the culprits to book, adding that “this sudden incident calls for greater vigilance by both security and communities to foil any plans by crisis merchants to roll the clog of peace backwards.”

Three Fulani persons were allegedly killed and two others severely injured by unknown gunmen suspected to be Berom youths in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area that ambushed their victims who were on transit.

Barkin Ladi is one of the crisis ridden local governments in the state where the STF had carried out operations to dislodge attackers and recover weapons.

Confirming the killings, the STF in a press statement signed by its Media Officer, Captain Salisu Mustapha said unknown gunmen yesterday ambushed and attacked Fulani, who were on their way to Sho village in Barkin Ladi.

“The armed Men opened fire on them killing one Yero Goma and Wada Usman on the spot, while Abdullahi Mukaka and Useni Ahmadu sustained gunshots. The fifth person Saleh Shuaibu escaped unhurt.

"The injured were rushed to a clinic in Barkin Ladi for treatment, but Abdualhi Mukka one of the injured persons died in the clinic."

  • Just when all hands are on deck to bring overlasting peace, the Beroms are on it again and no one seems to be paying attention to this incident. Even the Media, apart from this day, are keeping quite as if nothing has happened. And when the Fulani fights back the whole world will rise against them. What goes around comes around and very fast in Nigeria.

  • Sometimes it is good to carry out such pre-emptive attacks on these Fulani's as you can't tell their intention..

  • Saleh, it is truly sad that while we try to put behind us events that have reduced life to is worst form in our state, we are concerned about the latest twist of events. You may do well to visit the event that took place three days to the sad murder of the three Fulani men, when a group of herdsmen invaded the same village. God helping the youths the invaders were repelled with one arrested and handed over to the police. How many papers reported the event? In this case who is fighting back? Please let us present ourselves at least for once as trustworthy vessels that can be trusted when it comes to truth. Pretending and hiding the truth will never build trust and confidence in our people. About three weeks back villages were ransacked in Kombul in Mangu LGA by the Fulani herdsmen. Is that one of your fight backs? Nothing justifies the taking of human life in what ever form and for what ever reason. Those of us that have the privilege of various means of disseminating our views will contribute greatly in enthroning peace by upholding the tenets of truth and reconciliation. Spreading falsehood will not help matters at all.
