Plateau State government has condemned in strong terms the fresh onslaught on Fulani in Barkin Ladi area of the state describing it as a “very disturbing incident, especially against the background of peace building in that area of recent”.
A press statement issued by the state Commissioner of Information, Mr. Abraham Yiljap in reaction to the killing of three Fulani in the area by suspected Berom youths, added that “the people were already beginning to enjoy the benefits of robust security deployments and sensitisation.”
He said the Sector Commander of the Special Task Force (STF) has already been directed to investigate and bring the culprits to book, adding that “this sudden incident calls for greater vigilance by both security and communities to foil any plans by crisis merchants to roll the clog of peace backwards.”
Three Fulani persons were allegedly killed and two others severely injured by unknown gunmen suspected to be Berom youths in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area that ambushed their victims who were on transit.
Barkin Ladi is one of the crisis ridden local governments in the state where the STF had carried out operations to dislodge attackers and recover weapons.
Confirming the killings, the STF in a press statement signed by its Media Officer, Captain Salisu Mustapha said unknown gunmen yesterday ambushed and attacked Fulani, who were on their way to Sho village in Barkin Ladi.
“The armed Men opened fire on them killing one Yero Goma and Wada Usman on the spot, while Abdullahi Mukaka and Useni Ahmadu sustained gunshots. The fifth person Saleh Shuaibu escaped unhurt.
"The injured were rushed to a clinic in Barkin Ladi for treatment, but Abdualhi Mukka one of the injured persons died in the clinic."
