Ripples from the United States’ Democratic National Convention, which former governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Tinubu, attended last week, continued Monday as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) disclosed that information available to it showed that the Democratic Party did not extend any special invitation or recognition to him.

The party said the propaganda by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and its chieftains have once again exposed the lie that the party constantly lives to court the attention of Nigerians.

The PDP also said that such deceitful postures and needless bare-faced lies by the ACN is a tragedy capable of inculcating negative values in the growing generation of Nigerian politicians.

A statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Methu, said: “The usual desperation of Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his party to court attention at all cost has taken an international dimension.

“This time, Senator Tinubu who prides himself as the national leader of the ACN has been basking in a delusory frenzy of being ‘specially invited’ to the just concluded Democratic National Convention which held in Charllotte, North Carolina in the United States of America.

“When the former British Prime Minister, Benjamin Disraeli said that no government can long be secure without a formidable opposition, what he had in mind was a focused and constructive opposition whose view would be an alternative to government in power. He never envisaged an opposition that is founded on fraud and deceit, all in an effort to buy cheap popularity and run down the government in power.

“Whenever we in the PDP say the ACN is not offering and cannot offer Nigerians any alternative, it is because we know that the foundation and the leadership of the party is based on fraud and deceit.

“While Tinubu and his co-travellers are still humouring themselves on being recognised in the international circle as leaders of opposition for attending the convention, it has since been revealed that the man actually laboured vigorously to purchase his invitation.”

“We do not really question Tinubu’s right to engage in any form of political tourism but we find it reprehensible that he could go to that extent  to fraudulently establish importance for himself and his party. It is laughable and unfortunate. Neither a political party nor a politician worth the onion needs to live a lie to create enough effect and acceptance before the people. We therefore wonder at the driving motivation behind ACN’s desperate maneuverings. Is the ACN just a political party with a constitution and manifesto devoid of moral code for members? It appears it is”, PDP said.

According to the PDP, the claim by the ACN of a working agreement between it and the Democratic Party which the latter has debunked and waved off as an inconsequence is a sludge on the image of Nigeria.

“With over half a decade of independence behind us and with generations of eminent Nigerians at the national and international levels, it is painful that our people are being subjected to denigration by a foreign political party on the account of fraudulent claims of an international alliance by the ACN.”

“The PDP is not surprised at this merchandise of falsehood by the ACN because evergreen in the memory of Nigerians is the doubtful background of the so-called national leader of the ACN, not excluding his state of origin, his date of birth and educational qualifications.”

The statement further said that “very laughable in Tinubu’s image laundering trip to the US is the presence in the delegation of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji who is standing trial on corruption charges.”
“We wish to remind the ACN that no amount of “black market” convention trip or pseudo endorsement abroad can improve its political fortunes at home. Endorsement belongs to the people of Nigeria and not even the fraudulent manipulation of the media can earn this,”Methu stated.

  • Beautiful both parties are running the same Napoleon Law 'All Animals Are Equal but Some Are More Equal Than Others'. I will urge nigerians to right our wrongs in 2015 by insisting we use Electronic voting Machine so that we can vote in and out all the political office holders good and bad respectively.

  • Olisa Methu, this is uncalled for, First you started on a very hilarious and satirical note, amusing us with your busybody over another man business that has nothing to do with your party, then you went on the offensive attacking the credentials of a major political actor on the Nigerian political platform including his state of origine, the fact that he is a Nigerian, is it not sufficient for you?. How does this kind of behavior improve the quality of polical discuss in Nigeria. No idealogy, no substance to the debate, that is of relevance to the common man. Just empty ego voyage and grammatical quagmire by the likes of Methu. Any wonder why we are where we are as a nation? Very sad indeed.

  • Yes,it appears that, people of Nigeria are now rising to the occassions.Thank God that, the National office of the so called big party in subsahara africa i.e PDP can rised to critise opposition party like ACN,there is much to be learn and this send a very big signal and or message accross Nigeria and boyond as to the importancy of opposition in any democratic system of govt.If for any reasons we are to cast our memory back what we did hear was we didn't have strong opposition(s) party(ies) in Nigeria that, the likes of ANPP,AD to mention just few were nothing but regional or ethnic driven political parties but now PDP with it reactions to the so called fraudulent political tour of the National leader of ACN Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu(BAT) and his co travellers has shown that actually our democracy is really developing.
No matter what repots both camps(ACN&PDP) may want to release it wouldn't go beyond political statement i.e wanting people to believe you or trying to convince/confuse people that you actually saying the truth but all on propagandas,i belief both Asiwaju(BAT) and his party (ACN) nor the PDP are strategising, if 1 adopts plan A other may opts for plan B all in the name of gaining poliltical popularity and power.
No doubt that,PDP accused ACN and her National leader Asiwaju BAT of trying to attached political importancy and respect to himself by claiming that he received golden invitation from Democratic National Commitee to attend Obama's open convention in US but, also forgotten that, there is also unresolved issue of Mrs p Jonathan state of health, the basis of her trip to Germany, claim and counter claim from the Presidency and personal aid of the first lady of Nigeria that is majorly formed by PDP.

  • My wedding invitation reads, "You are cordially invited ...By the Bride and Bridegroom..." The truth is that my friend gave me this invite. Can you honestly prove that I have not been invited by the Bride and Bridegroom? Olisah Metuh, should not bait the the unsavoury and irrelevant.Any guest inside the Charlotte convention venue, was a guest of the Democratic Party and by extension Obama's.Lets concentrate on weighty issues.Chief Olisah should save us from the #5,000 thoughtlessness.

  • Olisah has actually make Tinubu bigger than life by his write up. Also what is big deal in attending a convention, can't PDP seek means of partnering with Republican?.
Base on the tone of Olisah's write up it shows if it has been Goodluck they will be happy and declare public holiday.

  • Nigerians should understand Tinubu is a pathological dishonest person. Being dishonest is nothing to him. As the writer rightly said, his state of origin, his date of birth, his qualifications and so many others are seriously distorted. I would never go near such a man.
As per invite for the Democratic party presidential nomination. Only a fool would believe that. He is not the main opposition in the country. That title belongs to CPC; Tinubu sold his right to that to the PDP during the general election

  • The problem is not the attendance of the convention by Tinubu & co. The problem is the big lie they were peddling across the world that the Democratic Party officially invited the ACN and its leaders to the convention. This clearly tells us how fraudulent some of the political opportunists parading themselves as leaders can become to achieve their fraudulent and selfish intentions. Tinubu is only using propaganda to build a larger than thou image for himself. His home-coming is very imminent. Quote me.

  • What a shame Olisa. Have you become so cheap as to attack personality rather than issue? The fact remains that the ACN chieftain was at the convention. He was not bounced and that speaks volumes. You PDP actors would have sent a delegation to the convention but you may never be seen there. Your primary interest will of course be to increase you looting of the national treasury and fro lick with women of easy virtue.
ACN states have proven that PDP has nothing to offer. From Lagos to EDO , Oyo to Ekiti and Ogun, you find dividends of democracy but excepting Akwa Ibom and Enugu, all other PDP states are just there to "CARRY GO!". Please worry about the failure of your party machinery to solve the power problem. The only man who tried, just like the late Bola Ige was sacked. His offence? The PDP gladiators that import Generators and Diesel would rather our factories and homes are run on electricity generating plants. If you must be a publicity Secretary, you must publicly secreatarize well.(That was from one of your party chieftains).

  • So the PDP can bark and bite , go on and give the crooks more. Those who feel they are comfortable with the "polished thugs" should go on deluding themselves until 2015 when another Tinubu relation will be give an automatic ticket to "come and chop'
