A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Mr. Owolabi Salis, has blamed the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)-led administration of Lagos state over the resurging spate of crime in the state.
The financial technocrat and Leader of the Operation Rescue Lagos, berated the government for its neglect of mass employment, while paying lip service to its much vaunted mega city project, which at best remained a farce.
The gravity of this gross government neglect, according to him, was because the army of unemployed youths accounted predominantly for the resurging spate of crime in the state.
“It is unfortunate that this government with all its progressive confession has simply failed to run a government with a human face. They have failed to run a people-centred government; yet for a government which claimed to have been enthroned through the popular mandate of the people, their abiding vision should have hinged on the greatest good of the greatest number”, said the U.S. based philanthropist.
He said: “This is why I have often maintained that this government has failed the people, and woefully too; because the essence of human empowerment which should have been the cornerstone of ideal governance is totally lacking in their scheme.
“Rather, all they have to show is a cosmetic decoration, government of window dressing deceptively garbed in the so-called phoney mega city project.”
Salis, who also sponsors a weekly Radio programme on Bond 92.9. to aid the development of Lagos state, also urged the government to realise that the state stood the risk of the emergence of Boko Haram of a more vicious dimension, if the it continued to trifle with the passionate yearning and aspirations of the teeming number of youths who crave for a creative outlet for self-fulfilment.
He also warned that the educational policy of the state, with its un-salutary potential in churning out half baked, good-for-nothing army of semi-illiterates, offered a sure recipe for the Boko Haram syndrome and other categories of criminals it let loose on the society.
