The Chairman of the committee set up by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to harmonise the chairmanship candidates for the Board of Trustee (BoT) following the multiplicity of the aspirants, Professor Jerry Gana, has stated that he has no regrets on his role and the outcome of the reorganisation of the party’s BoT.

“I have never played politics with the reorganisation of the BoT, I have done my job right and I have no regret on the outcome.”

Gana, who stated this in Minna while speaking to journalists after a visit to the Niger State Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, yesterday said he carried out his duties well.
He added that if given the opportunity, those condemning them would have played politics with it.

“For 30 years, I have built credibility, I have built integrity. I will not do anything that is not right. The reorganisation of PDP BoT was very important. I had a challenge to make sure that the board is constituted in accordance with the constitution of the party and I thank God I have done it  courageously.

“Many people will not do it the way I have done it because they will play politics with it and I don’t play politics. I do it right because I come from Niger State where they tell the truth and where we are very courageous,” Gana said.

Stating that contrary to reports that the attendance in the meeting where he presented his report was low, he said that the attendance was one of the fullest since 2006.
“I want to assure you that we had the fullest attendance of the BoT so far since 2006.

The meeting was the fullest, it was 100 per cent attended. The only person that was unable to come was the former chairman and this have nothing to do with the report.
“Everyone was there when I presented the report, in fact, the meeting was a-one-item agenda meeting just to consider our report and for one hour, I presented the report.”

The former minister expressed confidence that the future of PDP is very bright because they have a very solid team, adding that the reorganisation of the board will further strengthen the party especially now that it is led by an experienced and courageous person like Chief Tony Anenih.

“The BoT is a body of learned, experienced and trained people. They act as the conscience of the party so that they can give advice without bias or fears.
“We want to assure Nigerians that having men and women and integrity and honour and being led by a very experienced and courageous person like Anenih, the party will enjoy a lot of focus, stability and mobilisation,” he said.

Gana further said that the PDP Governors Forum was formed to ensure that the Board of Trustees achieve its vision in PDP led states, adding that though the PDP governors are the majority in the Nigeria Governors Forum, the forum does not reflect the objectives of the party which gave rise to the formation of the PDP Governors Forum.

“The formation of the PDP Governors Forum is not to disturb or disrupt the Nigeria Governors’ Forum. It is to make sure that the various component of the Governors’ Forum are properly organised, properly listened to and properly coordinated and not to destroy it. It is to ensure peace of stability and for our governors continue to govern their states excellently.”
