Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu

Health workers under the aegis of the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU), who had threatened a showdown with the federal ministry of health in April 2 have been urged to shelve their planned action in the interest of safeguarding human lives and upholding the ethics of the medical profession.

Last week JOHESU carpeted the Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu alleging that he has failed  to properly manage the nation’s health sector, and called for a true National Health Bill and also urgent implementation of the presidential committee’s report on harmony in the health sector.

The health workers comprising nurses, midwives, pharmacists, medical technologists and other categories, who protested at Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, blamed the minister for what they described as unnecessary discrimination in tertiary health institutions, claiming that professional consideration have been unduly over-politicised resulting in dichotomy in the health system.
