Protesters in kaduna

There is pandemonium in Kaduna following protests by Hausa youths in the Tudun-Wada area of the metropolis over the killings of their brothers in Sabon-Tasha and Gonin-Gora area in the Southern part of Kaduna Metropolis.

A police source told THISDAY that the youths vowed that they will avenge the killings that trailed the reprisal attacks following Sunday's bombing of three churches in Kaduna and Zaria which led to the deaths of many people.

The protesting youths have been burning tyres on the road. Thick black smoke was seen in the area while gun shots were also heard.

There was palpable fear as people immediately closed their shops and offices and headed back to their homes.

The state government is holding crucial security meeting at the government house.

Sources said the 24-hour curfew, only relaxed on Monday, may be reintroduced. Meanwhile armed soldiers and police have been deployed to strategic places while patrol teams were seen moving about in some of the volatile  areas.

A police helicopter was also seen flying over the city. All commercial banks in the metropolis are closed.

Tension is also said to be mounting in Zaria following reports of outbreak of violence in Kaduna.

A lecturer at the Kongo Campus of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Dr. Andrew Akume told THISDAY on telephone that the Kongo Campus of the institution was tense as a result of the reports.

  • Idiotic protest against reprisal killings what a shame on these primitive Northern Islamic leaders who watched Christians being slaughtered without restraint for decades. i do not in any way support the reprisal attacks but in the circumstance in which the Northern Christians find themselves they have the right to protect themselves. Let the Moslem North call their Dogs to order or face the wrath of God for killing innocent Christians and others. These infidels and idolaters won't get away with this if they do not repent. God's word can not fail, it will be unto them according to the word of God. Amen.
