Sport Minister, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi
Government High School Ilorin and Government Girls Day Secondary School, Pakata who won the male female category of the annual Omoluabi Under-15 Handball Championship have been offered slots to represent Nigeria at the European Open Handball Championship scheduled to hold in Sweden next year.
The foundation being sponsored by the Sport Minister, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, is responsible for organising the annual tournament to tap fresh handball talents in the state.
The open championship is a junior national team tournament played alongside Partille Cup every year.
President of the Nigerian Handball Federation, Alhaji Dauda Yusuf, presented the 2012 Omoluabi Handball champions with the tickets to Sweden when he paid a courtesy call on the foundation headquarters in Ilorin.
According to him, "handball is getting a new beginning now in order to move the sport forward in the country.”
Responding on behalf of the foundation, its Executive Director, Hajia Funso Abdullahi, thanked the handball federation for its support.
She said the federation’s gesture will further strengthen its resolve to join hands with other well meaning Nigerians to improve youths participation in the sport and other positive activities."
The Omoluabi Foundation is a non profit, non-governmental organisation with focus on youth development whose main strategy is to work with schools and communities to nurture future leaders who are socially skilful, emotionally intelligent, culturally aware and ethically sound, through sport, mentoring and extra-curricular activities.
