The Pro-Chancellor and Chair- man of Council, University of Ibadan, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), yesterday laid the foundation laying ceremony of the Faculty of Law 350-seater auditorium in the university.

The facility being built at Ajibode, a second acquisition of the institution was donated by the Pro-Chancellor.
At the ceremony, Olanipekun stated that there is need for governments at all levels, organisations and wealthy individuals in the country to support drives that can aid growth and development of tertiary institutions.

Olanipekun, who observed that poverty was prevalent in the land because of poor at- titude to giving, said that “One of the reasons why our people and institutions lag behind is because we leave government to do it alone. Most people like to amass wealth but do not care to give back to the society.”

Earlier in his speech, the Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan, Prof. Isaac Adewole, explained that the construction of the Law auditorium would give room for expansion.
He stated that the UI-Ajibode project was conceived in order to leapfrog development in the University by relocating some faculties to new area.

The VC said, “Today repre- sents a significant milestone
as there is a paradigm shift in our efforts to develop the University. None of the found- ing fathers of University of Ibadan knew that the institution would go this far.
“Relocating the Faculty of Law of the University to Ajibode will facilitate smooth running of educational activities in the faculty and also allow for grow.

“The proposal at first was coldly received by the lecturers and students in the faculty but we are happy that we have their support now.”
In the welcome remark to the occasion, the Dean, Faculty of Law of the university, Prof. Oluyemisi Bamgbose, said that the auditorium project was a boost to the study of law.
