Governor Adams Oshiomhole
Ahead of the Okpekpe International 10-kilometre Road Race, traditional rulers, elders and people of Okpekpe and its environs Monday commended the initiator of the competition, Mike Itemuagbo for bringing life and economic activities to the people of Edo North.
The spokesperson of the clan, Chief Lucky James who also doubles as the state commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, also thanked God for giving the state Comrade Adams Oshiomhole whose transformation of humanity agenda in Edo is yielding positive results.
“The area in question (Okpekpe clan), spans over two local governments. The area has a very challenging environment. The hills were so high that the people suffered total neglect in the past years until this administration came into power and took the Bull by the horn to construct the road that is today transforming the lives of our people.
“What we have in the Okpekpe area before now was a foot path. I'm telling you authoritatively because I was a teacher in that place. The objective of this international 10km road race, from Iyamho down to Okpekpe which is my area, apart from the physical test on the athlete, it also has mental satisfaction in terms of tourism potentials.
“There are chains of hills. The local people in the area will continue to see what life is: One by the road that is extended to them, which is bringing other good things to them. This time around, the communities will be seeing people from all over the world running a race. They will consider it a satisfaction seeing people from different parts of the world. The communities will feel fulfilled in life.
“Even the lame will like to walk; those who have eyes will be glued to the people. It will be so exciting creating a link between them and the world. To them, it is a continuous breakthrough that such international event is holding in their community.
“Now that by virtue of the roads that have been given to our people by Comrade Oshiomhole, they now have link to the world. Otherwise, what they have only watched on their television, they will see live and direct at their doorstep so it is a very great idea. We thank him so much for bring life to our people,” concluded Chief James.
