Sixteen more suspect have been arrested in connection with the killings of 20 members of the Deeper Life Bible Church and two soldiers in Okene, Kogi State last week.
The state’s Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Mr. Simon Ile, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), who confirmed the arrest of the suspects also denied allegation of
high handedness levied against security operatives posted to maintain peace in area.
Ile, who confirmed that a former chairman of Okene local government area was one of those arrested, also said the suspects were being questioned to determine their level of involvement in the killings.
The Police spokesman assured the people that those found not to be involved in the act would be freed after the ongoing investigation.
Meanwhile, the Commander, Army Records, Lokoja, General Alphonsus Chukwu, has denied an
allegation that his men were maltreating Okene residents.
Chukwu, who spoke in a telephone conversation with journalists yesterday, said he would investigate the allegation, adding: “I will be at Okene tomorrow to confirm some of these allegations.”
