Following their alleged disobedience of court orders and judgment, the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced contempt of court proceedings against some national officers and members of the party.

In a motion on notice filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos, on behalf of the State Executive Committee (Exco) by the Chairman and Secretary of the Ogun State PDP, Adebayo Dayo and Alhaji Semiu Shodipo against PDP, its National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur; the National Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and the sacked National Auditor, Mr. Bode Mustapha, the party said it was compelled to initiate the action following the “willful disobedience, violation and defiance of the orders” contained in the judgment of the court delivered on May 2, 2012.

Specifically, those the party is seeking to commit to prison are the Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Sam Jaja; Oyinlola; the National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh and Mustapha.

Others include Senator Lekan Mustapha, Hon. Dave Salako, the convicted Chairman and members of the purported Ogun PDP Caretaker Committee, Mr. Ireti Oniyide; Tunde Oladunjoye and  Fasiu Bakenne.
If found guilty, they risk between six months to one year imprisonment.

Among other prayers, the party pleaded with the court “to nullify all and any congresses or purported congresses organised and conducted by the 1st (PDP) alleged contemnors and/or its organs, officers or members (including the 2nd to 11th alleged contemnors) in Ogun State in July and August 2012 in violation and defiance of the orders contained in the judgment of this court delivered on the 2nd of May, 2012 in this suit (FHC/L/CS/347/2012).”

When the matter came up Thursday, before Justice Mohammed Idris, the judged ordered that the motion and other processes be served on the alleged contemnors through substituted service “by delivery of same to an adult inmate of the addresses which the said alleged contemnors had given as their address in previous communications and/or as listed in the motion.”

He adjourned till 8th August for hearing of the Motion on Notice.
