Efforts of the Ogun State Government to reduce maternal mortality and child deaths have received a boost with the launch of the Ante-natal Conditional Cash Transfer (CCTT) Programme in three Local Government Areas of the state.

The CCTT programme tagged “Gbomoro” saw no fewer than 600 pregnant women and nursing mothers receiving cash to cater for their ante and post natal transport expenses as well as mobile phones to enable them have easy access to their doctors and also regularly receive health tips at the launch of its first phase at Ipokia, Sagamu and Abeokuta Local Government Areas.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun, in his address said the objective of the programme was to reduce child and maternal mortality which result from pregnancy-related complications due to poverty and malnutrition in pregnancy and infancy.

He assured that his administration will not renege on his promise to provide sound health care delivery service for pregnant women as well as free health care for children between the age zero and five years.

Represented by his Commissioner for Health Dr. Olaokun Soyinka, Amosun stated that “Pregnant woman have been positioned to enjoy everything required for a safe delivery to improve maternal and child health in order to drastically reduce maternal mortality and child deaths. This is just the beginning of good things that will happen in the health sector, more are still to come”.

Governor Amosun said it would encourage pregnant women to patronize the health facilities which his administration had upgraded to acceptable standards having been provided with modern equipment, drugs and skilled attendants.
