Obada: FG to Pay Arrears to Military Retirees

Minister of State for Defence, Olusola Obada, has said the Federal Government is making plans to pay about 53 per cent of outstanding arrears of Nigerian Legion.

This is coming as Nigerian Navy decorated 40 of its staff that were recently promoted by the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Joseph Ezeoba.

Obada, while speaking at the National Council meeting of the Nigeria Legion in Abuja, yesterday promised to ensure that the welfare of the Nigerian Legion is given attention.

She commended the Nigeria Legion for their selfless services and support given to the widows and dependants of the fallen heroes.

The minister who was represented by Director, Veteran Affairs, Brig- Gen. Saliu Ubba, urged them not to relent in their effort to providing good leadership to the Nigeria legion.

She said: “I noticed your help and support to widows and dependants of the fallen heroes, your selfless sacrifices and other society focused interventions. We hoped you will continue to be socially and economically viable in pursuit of the purpose and objective for which the Legion was statutorily established. I want to assure you that government is making efforts to pay 53 per cent outstanding arrears.”

Earlier, the National Chairman, Nigeria Legion, Micah Gaya, had canvassed one uniform for Nigeria Legion throughout the country.
Gaya urged state chairmen to maintain good line of communication as these was more to benefit from it.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Navy yesterday decorated 40 senior officers that were recently promoted including 15 from the ranks Captain to Commodore, 23 from Lt. Commander to Commander and the other two were promoted to Lt. Commander.                                                                                  Performing the Shipping of Stripe Ceremony for the Newly Promoted officers, the CNS Ezeoba stated that the promotion of the officers is a reward of hardwork that they had put-in in serving their fatherland.

He said to the officers: “It is a rare opportunity, for many are called but few are chosen. I urge you to be committed as it implied a high responsibility to national service.”
