Mallam Umar Munir Abubakar, NSITF
The Managing Director of the Nigeria Social Trust Fund (NSITF), Mallam Umar Munir Abubakar, has been honoured with a ‘Distinguished Nigerian Personality in Diligent Service to Fatherland’ award for his efforts towards bettering the plight of the Nigerian worker.
The award was presented to him by the National Association of Niger Delta Students (NANDS) last weekend.
According to a statement, the National President of the Association, Mr. Lucky Emonefe, said the award was meant to push the NSITF to pursue greater heights especially in providing social security for Nigerian workers.
He added that the association has embarked on a sensitisation campaign to redirect the energies of youth in the Niger Delta region to embrace non-violent approaches to draw attention to the marginalisation of the region.
He also appealed to the Boko Haram sect to shun violence and embrace dialogue to address their grievances and foster unity in the country.
In his response, the NSITF boss, said encountering young people who are interested in dialogue as a means to conflict resolution is a sign that all hope is not lost for the nation.
He recalled that the about five years ago, the NSITF had initiated a programme for the transformation of the Niger Delta region. He added that the programme was transferred to the Niger Delta ministry after its creation.
