The nation’s premier league clubs have resolved to meet in Abuja Wednesday ahead of Thursday’s Nigeria Premier League (NPL) Congress billed for Kano.

The Abuja meeting is being convened by coordinators of the league from the six geo political zones of the country.

The group which has Alhaji Yerima Farouk of Gombe United as general coordinator said they are meeting in Abuja ostensibly to take a position on the way forward for the league ahead of the Kano congress.

The zonal coordinators which include Heartland’s Chief Fan Ndubuoke, Lobi’s Dominic Iorfa, Okey Kpaloku of Sharks, Sabo Babayaro of Kaduna United and Mutiu Adepoju disclosed that they met a fortnight ago in Calabar where they resolved to meet to take a position on the league.

Farouk who confirmed the Abuja  meeting said they would after the parley hit Kano, even as he said they would not fold their arms and allow the league to die.

He noted that the Chief Rumson Baribote led NPL was yet to brief the clubs on why the NFF decided to initially put the pre season congress on hold.

“There are a lot of issues we would want to get explanations from the NPL board. This is why we are meeting in Abuja before going to Kano,” he said.

The clubs are also not comfortable with the December 21 kick-off date for the league because it is too close to the Christmas holidays.

Clubs equally maintain they wish for a resolution of vexed issues concerning the sponsorships of the league.

“We are surprised the NPL board has already fixed a kick off date for the new season even when the congress is yet to meet,” Farouk stated.
