Nigeria's 4x400m quartet was disqualified

Nigeria's Olympic humiliation was completed Saturday evening when her 4x400m women's quartet was disqualified in the final of the race, which was won by the US.

But even without the disqualification, the Nigerian girls were never in medals' contention and crossed the finish line in seventh spot.

Their flop means that Nigeria officially finished competing at London 2012 without winning a medal of any colour - as was the case at Moscow'80 and Seoul'88.

Finishing second behind the Americans was Russia while Jamaica won the bronze medal.

  • I think we have learn a lot from this Olympic London 2012, that we should have a rethink how we select our athletics. The issue of national character or wazobia is out of fashion, therefore, should not be applied in sports. In any event in future; if it is all the 'WA'S will deliver/or achieve medals; let them go, if it is 'ZO'S' or ZUWO's will achieve medals for us let them go, and if it is 'BIA'S' then let them go for the medals.
When they are out there, no one wants to know which tribe are you from, all they want to know or hear is the name; Nigeria not your tribe or ethnic group you are representing. Imagine, a single relay we had all the tribes or ethnic group represented, and yet we could not deliver/or achieve anything, I saw the four names, they represented all tribes, but this is not what we want or asking for, we want the medals. We are tired of quantity, we want quality. In future events, if all the athletics will come from one tribe, please let them go. Jamaica and some caribbean countries were not many in population but they won medals, but their population is not up to a fraction of a state in Nigeria
