A series of attractive Nigerian tourism offerings for the American market are currently under scrutiny by select industry experts put together by the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) in the United States. The initiative, which cuts across sports tourism, culture, entertainment and eco- tourism is a holistic package and campaign geared towards penetrating the huge American continent and getting a sizeable chunk of the country’s tourism market.
Already, NTDC Director-General Otunba Segun Runsewe has collaborated with Paul Cohen of Partner Concept, a specialist tourism destination promoter with a commendable track record to drive the new discover Nigeria campaign in America. Backed by Arik Air’s in-roads into the U.S. with a twice weekly flight to New York, the critical but supportive select tourism collaborators believe that Nigeria can up its tourism and travel presence in the U.S. by up to 20 per cent in a year through a deliberate campaign that cuts across various platforms. Already endorsements have started rolling in for the Discover Nigeria project with the globally-famous Florida-based PGA Tour, The LA Sparks, Tiger Woods Foundation, MBC Travel Channel , CNN Travels and the biggest African American Cable Network -African Channel throwing their weight behind the Nigeria tourism rebound. The various meetings held so far point to a positive foundation building process for Nigeria in the attractive United States out-bound travel and tourists market. Runsewe believes that the time is ripe to aggressively tap into the US market by synergising with relevant organisations and agencies in the U.S. that gel with the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan.
