As the nation grapples with various challenges, former military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), has said that the security challenges occasioned by Boko Haram is a cause for concern.
He however noted that he was of the belief that the nation would overcome the challenges, saying there would certainly be light at the end of the dark tunnel.
The former head of state posited that to achieve greatness, all the abundant resources in the country must be properly harnessed as that is the panacea to development.
‘’I believe if we are able to harness our diversity, definitely Nigeria will come a long way. I still have hope in Nigeria and still believe in this country having gone round Africa and seen the problem bedeviling our continent I believe we will come a long way as long as we harness our resources,’’ Abubakar noted.
The former military head of state gave the assurancein an interview with THISDAY, at his Maizube Farms on the outskirt of Minna, Niger State capital.
According to Abubakar, ‘’we have a long way to go, Nigeria in the last 52 years has seen a lot of ups and down like any developing nation, but I think we have our own share of upheaval in this country.’’
On the nation’s economy, he said a lot could be done and as such all hands must be on the deck to ensure that the nation’s economy is effectively revived.
Asked if bad leadership is the major problem of the country, Abubakar said leadership is a collective responsibility, saying every Nigerian has a role to play in the task of moving the nation forward.
