NFF General Secretary, Musa Amadu
The Nigeria Football Federation on Wednesday mourned the passing of three-time Secretary General of then Nigeria Football Association, Mr. Philips Achebe, better known as P. O. C. Achebe.
NFF General Secretary, Musa Amadu said: “We received news of Mr. Achebe’s death while we were in Morocco for the CAF General Assembly. He was a great administrator who did so much for the game of football in our country.”
The late P. O. C. Achebe was Secretary General of Nigeria Football Association between 1971 and 1973, and also between 1975 and 1976, and finally between 1991 and 1992.
The astute administrator was said to have left for the United States of America about 15 years ago, where he died of prostate cancer-related illness on Saturday, March 9, at the age of 86.
Amadu added: “We sincerely mourn his passing and Nigeria football will miss him. He is in the same hallowed club as the likes of late Patrick Okpomo, late Oyo Orok Oyo and Tunji Fagbemi. To have served three terms as Secretary Nigeria meant they were really at the top of the tree of their generation.
“Our hearts go out to late P. O. C. Achebe’s family. We pray that God Almighty will give them the fortitude to bear the loss.”
