Super Falconets

Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Emeka Inyama has applauded the performance of Nigeria’s Falconets in their 2-0 win over Korea on Sunday at the on-going FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Japan.

Inyama, who is also a board member of the NFF, however, urged the girls to remain focussed as the country’s target at this edition of the competition is to win the trophy.

He urged the girls to go all out to aim for victory in their clash with Brazil Wednesday.

Also speaking on the girls’ performance in Japan, a member of the NFF’s Technical Committee, Austel Elumelu tipped the Falconets to go far in the competition after their pulsating 2-0 victory over South Korea 2-0 in their opening game last Sunday.

“I was pleased the way Falconets played on Sunday. I have no doubt that with this performance, they as well as the Flamingoes will surely get to the semi-finals of the Under-20 and Under-17 World Cups, respectively,” enthused Elumelu.

Meanwhile, while the first day’s action at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Japan 2012 was notable for close-fought encounters and a solitary emphatic win, the second day of games could hardly have been more different. All four matches ended in comprehensive victories, with Canada helping themselves to six of the day’s 20-goal total in their 6-0 thrashing of Argentina.

Africa’s other representatives, Ghana were spanked 4-0 by USA while Germany also hammered China by the same margin.

As the goals flew in from all angles, USA’s Maya Hayes and Canada’s Adriana Leon had most to celebrate by scoring hat-tricks – taking both to the top of the scorers’ charts at this early stage.
