The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has made it clear that only partners and sponsors of the Federation can use the name of the Super Eagles in advertisements, promotions and such mentions around the team’s qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations’ final.

After a meeting with the NFF leadership, including the Director of Marketing Idris Adama Thursday, the Federation’s Marketing Consultant and member of the Marketing Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Mr. Mike Itemuagbor, said: “We wish to use this opportunity to sincerely appreciate Corporate Nigeria for its immense support for the Super Eagles’ campaign at the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

“However, it has come to our notice that those organisations who have nothing to do with the NFF have also been using the name of the Super Eagles for certain campaigns and identifying their brand with the Super Eagles’ performance at this period, thereby giving impression to the public that they are part of the performance in some way. This is unwholesome, unprofessional and unacceptable.

“The Nigeria Football Federation wishes to state without ambiguity that only its partners and sponsors have the rights and privileges to use the name of the Super Eagles for any campaigns, promotions or mentions.

“We will not hesitate to take legal action against any other company, institution or establishment that runs afoul of this caution.”

He thanked the partners and sponsors of the NFF, viz: Globacom Communications, Guinness Nigeria Plc, Adidas, Cadbury Nigeria Plc, Samsung, the Federal Government and various state governments (especially Cross River State government) that were part and parcel of the preparation process, for their tremendous support and resilience, and for keeping faith over the years, while also heaping encomiums on the media for their vibrancy and for keeping the game on the front burner.
