The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has concluded arrangements to commence an enhancement training programme on a new technology for engineers and other professionals in the building construction industry.
The new technology, according to a statement issued by the Assistant Director, Information and Public Relations of the NDE known as WEDI technology, is an initiative between the NDE and a German firm.
The collaboration is aimed at building the capacity of Nigerian professionals in the building construction sector to conform to current global best practices in the sector, and to also generate job opportunities with resultant multiplier effects.
WEDI is a German technological product made from composite building material with free rigid polystyrene foam reinforced by a specialist synthetic polymer resin mortar. The product, according to the statement is designed for application to different stable substructure and also a perfect substructure to finishes like mosaic tiles, wall papers etc.
The statement advised interested building engineers, architects, builders and artisans who are desirous of acquiring the skills to handle the new technology to register at the FCT office of the directorate located at Zone 7, Wuse District Abuja.
Meanwhile, NDE said it has commenced the capacity building for women to enable the effectively participate in YouWin business competition. The training is under the auspices of the Small-scale Enterprises Department.
It explained that resource persons were assigned to counsel and mentor women on how to participate in YouWin business competition, expose them to the process of identifying and developing a viable business idea, preparation of business plans and other sources of business financing.
At the end of the training, participants will be able to submit their project to the YouWin website.
Speaking during the event, the Director General of the NDE, Mallam Abubakar Mohammed stated that unemployment is a scourge which threatens the aspirations of youths.
He added that the training was to avail Nigerian women the opportunity to discover, sharpen and subsequently implement their entrepreneurial ideas through winning the YouWin grant. He urged all participant to be serious since the NDE is well positioned to ensure effective participation of women in this second phase of the competition.
