Admiral Adekeye, former Chief of Naval Staff
Following the impact it has made in promoting good neighbourliness and unity in the country, the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) Regular Course 12 has finalised arrangements to hold the fourth edition of its annual general meeting (AGM) on December 1.
The NDA Regular Course 12 also known as Team 12, comprising the alumni of the NDA from the Army, Navy and Air Force that passed out from the institution in December 1973 for the Air Force and Navy and December 1974 for the Army is also registered as an association with the Corporate Affairs Commission under the name: Team 12 Club.
According to a statement issued by Air Vice Marshal Robert Ekezie (rtd), the meeting would hold at the residence of Air Vice Marshal Konye Robert Ekezie in Ehime, Mbano, Imo State.
Ekezie said part of the objectives of the Team 12 Club is to promote friendship, exemplify unity in the country, foster inter family, community, religious and tribal relationships.
In his words, “The Team 12 Club aims “to exemplify oneness. We are made up of different tribes and religions who passed out from the NDA. We come together yearly as a family, to establish hearty, family friendship and to share experiences.
“We believe it is better to celebrate our members while they are alive. The norm in Nigeria is to start making tributes when our friends or colleagues die. In fact it is only at this time that most people in Nigeria know the homes of their colleagues or friends, only when they are being buried.
“We at Team 12 are saying that it is better to celebrate people when they are alive, and the unique point about us is that our meetings are sometimes held in the home of our members. This fosters bonding and networking.
“The last one was held at Ofa, Kwara State in the home of Admiral Adekeye, the former Chief of Naval Staff. Though the Team 12 Club is a small group, but we are optimistic that from this small passionate lovers of our dear country, Nigeria, we could become part of the change drivers that everybody is yearning for.”
It is true that most us have contributed our quota to our national development in different capacities, we are still ready to do more.
“Our educational system is in a shamble, we are ready to help the government in its quest for national transformation. We are open to help especially our universities, both private and government-owned.”
Ekezie added that the aim of Team 12 is also to sell the idea to other organisations and groups in Nigeria as a way of promoting unity and good neighbourliness.
“When you know your colleague or friend down to his home, interact with him and his family, whatever affects him affects you, the tendency is for you to have the feeling that you must be your brothers keeper.”
According to him, “At this point, when Nigeria is at a cross road, if an Hausa man could go and mingle freely in the home of an Igbo man in Mbano, Imo State, a Yoruba man could do the same in a remote village in Zamfara, it could catalyse the peace and unity we have been desperately searching for.”
Some of the members of the NDA regular Course 12 include former Chief of Defence Staff and National Security Adviser, General Azazi (rtd), and the present National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), former Director of the State Security Service, Col Kayode Are (rtd), Air Vice Marshal Atawodi (rtd), a one-time gubernatorial candidate in Kogi State.
