Television and radio stations operating in the country have up to 2012 to upgrade their services to digitalised functions or face proscription, the regulating body - Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) - has said.
Also the commission has warned that it is going to apply stiff measures on members of the public who indulge in hacking through selling of lines from decoders to their neighbours without authorisation of licensed authorities.
According to the Commission’s State Officer for Imo and Abia States, Mrs. Nonye Obuna-Ede, who disclosed this at a Multichoice/DSTV Nigeria Customer Forum held in Owerri, perpetrators of such an economic fraud, if apprehended, would henceforth be handed over to the security agencies for possible prosecution.
The forum featured recent innovations in the DSTV customer touch points and service delivery, new developments in the DSTV channels and content offering as well as HD-PVR technology and corporate social investment programmes.
Obuna-Ede explained that the NBC had alerted security agencies of such an ugly development, saying, “We need your assistance so that our business can go on well because DSTV is already digitalised and are in business”.
As a regulator for both the radio and television, she assured that the NBC is poised to ensure that the broadcasting media adhere strictly to professionalism.
Speaking, the Head, Corporate Communications of Multichoice Nigeria, Mr. Segun Fayose, explained that the forum was meant for mutual interaction between the DSTV subscribers and the organisation for improved services.
Multichoice Nigeria, he said, now boosts of 36 dealers across the country, 201 schools in 21 states of the federation with multi-research project and authentic information on the sickle cell scourge.
In answering questions, the Acting Head of Marketing, Noah Amosu; the Regional Marketing Manager, Daniel Otiede and Manager of Paulsco Electronics, Amos Okiriki, all called for the application of mobile banking and mobile payment by members of the public on weekends as is the case with the MTN and the internet.
They expressed gratitude to the public for patronizing the products and services of the company, even though those services are provided to give comfort to homes and reduce stress.
Customers extended their appreciation to the Multichoice and DSTV for being there for them in their various homes to bring happiness and comfort for them.
