The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in Oyo State said it had seized and destroyed regulated products worth N28,674,750) in a recent destruction at the Shagamu dump site in Ogun state.

Mr. Benjamin Haruna, the state unit head who confirmed the seizure claimed that items destroyed included: drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, herbal medicines, food and chemicals which were seized during regulatory activities carried out within Oyo State between October 2009 and August 2012.

He further stated that the fake, substandard and unwholesome products were seized from drug hawkers, pharmaceutical companies, super markets, water factories, open markets and those that were voluntarily submitted for destruction.  The agency hereby warns the general public to be wary of spurious regulated products which they consume as this may lead to cancer, lack of required nutrients in the consumption of harmful products, warning that if anybody is not sure of the wholesomeness of any product, such person shouldreport such to the nearest NAFDAC office.

Consumers must always watch out for the manufacturing date, expiry date on the product, batch number and the manufacturer’s address.
