Justice Mudashiru Oniyangi of an Abuja High Court Friday ruled that former Inspector General of Police, Mr. Sunday Gabriel Ehindero and the Commissioner of Police in charge of Budget, during his administration, Mr. John Obaniyi must face trial over the N558 alleged misappropriation.

The court in a ruling to the application challenging the jurisdiction of the court which sought to strike out the charges against the accused persons refused to grant the order but ruled that they had cases to answer and will go through trial to establish their innocence.

The charges were filed against the duo by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).

Thereafter, the charges were read to the accused who pleaded not guilty to the six count charge  and were on application, granted the bail in the sum of N10 million each and a surety who must swear to an affidavit of means.

Ehindero and Obaniyi were alleged to have conspired between the months of May and November 2006, used their position to confer corrupt advantages upon themselves by placing the sum of N300 million out of the N558 million donated to the Nigeria Police Force by the Bayelsa state Government for the procurement of arms, ammunition and riot control equipments, in a fixed deposit account at Wema Bank Plc where it yielded an interest of N9.8 million for them.
