Association of Chief Executives, Federal Tertiary Hospitals (ACEFTH) in the country has expressed concern over the delay by the National Assembly to pass the National Tertiary Hospitals’ Service Commission and the National Health Policy bills now before it.

Rising from its 68th quarterly meeting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the Chief Executive of Federal Tertiary Hospitals called on the National Assembly to expeditiously pass the bills they were critical to the operation and advancement of the nation’s health care delivery.

A communiqué jointly signed by the Chairman of the Association, Professor George O. Akpede and the Vice Chairman/Secretary-General, and Dr. Angela C. Uwakwem respectively also condemned incessant strike in the nation’s tertiary educational system. The Association which noted the negative impact of such strikes in the advancement of education and health care delivery tasked the Federal Government to take decisive steps to halt the ugly trend.

ACEFTH frowned at the lean budgetary provision to the nation’s health sector pointing out that it falls short of the World Health Organisation benchmark of 15 percent, adding that there was need for an urgent establishment of a periodic needs assessment programme and the provision of stabilization grants to Federal Tertiary Hospitals.
