About nine persons were on Thursday feared dead in a motor accident along Gbongan-Ife road in Gbongan, headquarters of Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State, while 11 persons sustained various degrees of injuries.
The accident, which occurred around 1.30 p.m., at kilometre 2, opposite Gbongan Community High School, involved a white coloured Toyota Hiace commercial bus marked XA 477 MAP and a MAN Diesel Truck, with registration number XA 585 ALK.
An eye witness told THISDAY that the accident was allegedly caused by over-speeding of the two vehicles involved, which made residents to scamper to safety due to the impact of the crash.
THISDAY was informed that efforts made by sympathisers to rescue the victims did not yield results as some of the victims died on the spot, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
When contacted, the state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Imoh Etuk, confirmed the accident, but said, “preliminary investigation showed that the accident was caused by over speeding.”
According to him, “the number of people involved in the accident are 20. They are 12 female, five males, one male child and two female children. The number of people who died is nine, and these include six female adults, two male adults and a child.”
