MoneyGram Signs on Ecobank into Global Train

In a move to better position MoneyGram among its Nigerian patrons, management of the company has entered a fresh partnership with Ecobank to facilitate a hitch-free money transfer.

At the agreement signing ceremony in Lagos recently, MoneyGram’s Vice- President, Africa, Mr. Herve Chomel, said the partnership offered growth opportunities to the operations of the two financial institutions. He also stated that it would create a better convenient platform for customers of the bank to integrate into the global schemes of MoneyGram.

According to him, the partnership will enable Ecobank Nigeria offer money transfer services through the MoneyGram platform. It gives customers and non-customers of the bank the opportunity to send and receive money through MoneyGram global network in any of the over 600 branches of Ecobank spread across Nigeria.

Commenting on the partnership, Ecobank Nigeria’s Managing Director, Jibril Aku, said Ecobank was excited about the partnership as it gives the bank an additional window to service the money transfer needs of its customers. He remarked: “This is a right-fit partnership between two quality brands that will deliver world class value to customers.”


According to Aku, “Ecobank is better positioned to offer financial services to Africans wherever they might be”, adding that the bank was determined to go into partnerships like this, to enable it achieve its cardinal goal of financially empowering the people.

In his words “We are present in more African countries than any other bank in the world and by implication reaching out to more Africans, no matter their location. This partnership with MoneyGram, no doubt, will strengthen our resolve to serve the people better”.

MoneyGram is said to offer transfer services worldwide through a global network of more than 267,000 agent locations – including retailers, international post offices and financial institutions in over 192 countries and territories around the world.
