John Mikel Obi
John Mikel Obi has said he wishes to win a first-ever FIFA Club World Cup with Chelsea in Japan.
‘The Blues’ will take on Monterrey of Mexico in the semi-final of the Club World Cup on Thursday.
The Nigeria midfielder was in the Chelsea team who won an historic UEFA Champions league in May and he now wants to add another page to the history books.
"I am happy to be in Japan with my team to compete in the Club World Cup. This is the first time Chelsea are playing in this competition and I hope to win it with them. I ready to contribute my quota to making another history here in Japan," Mikel told MTNFootball.com.
Mikel said he was overwhelmed by the rousing welcome Chelsea enjoyed on arrival in Japan for the competition.
"It was a great experience. They really appreciate us. It was a good welcome, we will do our best to make these fans happy as we aim to win the trophy," Mikel said.
Besides winning a first-ever Champions League trophy with Chelsea, Mikel has also won a league and FA Cup double with the London club.
The Nigeria international is serving out a three-match ban in England, but that does not affect his participation in the Club World Cup.
