Indications emerged Tuesday that the former Military Governor of Lagos State and the governorship aspirant of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the last governorship election in Adamawa State, General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd.), may have indicated his intention to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The PDP caretaker committee Chairman in the state, Umar Damagun, disclosed this at the party’s secretariat in Yola, during a press briefing, where he alleged that Marwa’s return was part of the caretaker committee’s mandate to harmonise and reconcile party members in the state, especially those who left the party aggrieved.
Damagun also claimed that Marwa had earlier called him to indicate his interest to defect from CPC to the PDP.
“We are trying to carry everybody along without sentiments and impunity,” he said.
However, it was gathered that Marwa’s running mate during the governorship poll, Chief John Mannasa, was allegedly spotted at a recent PDP stakeholders’ meeting with the caretaker committee, even though the reason for his participation in the meeting was not revealed.
When contacted, Mannasa denied the allegation but alleged that himself and Marwa were trying to defect from CPC to the PDP, adding that before THISDAY contacted him, somebody had called him where he denied the allegation.
While announcing the names of the newly appointed Caretaker Committee chairmen at local government and ward levels appointed by his committee, Damagun revealed that the PDP had a landslide victory.
“This is a testimony that PDP is the party to beat in the state,” he said.
He said the appointment of the caretaker committee chairmen was to assist the party to harmonise its members at the grassroots.
