Senator Liyel Imoke

President of the Senate, David Mark, and his deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Sunday congratulated the governor-elect of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke, on his victory at last Saturday’s governorship poll, saying his re- election was a reward for his good work in the last four years.
Similarly, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State and his Enugu State counterpart, Mr. Sullivan Chime, have congratulated Imoke on his re-election as governor of the state.
In separate congratulatory messages to Imoke shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him winner yesterday, they said his victory would be a great leap for the socio-economic and tourism development of the state and beyond.
Mark said the re-election of Imoke would profit the people of the state because he has the opportunity to consolidate and complete the people oriented projects earmarked upon to transform the state.
On his part, Ekweremadu said: “This landslide victory is simply a well deserved pay back for good governance, selfless service to the people, and in fact a job well done in the first tenure.”
Ihedioha in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr. Oke Epia, said Imoke’s re-election for the second term in office was a testimony of the dividends of democracy he achieved in his first term in office and a confirmation of the people’s faith and confidence in the governor and the PDP.
Orji in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ugochukwu Emezue, Orji said Imoke’s victory did not come to him as a surprise. According to the governor, Imoke deserved the victory having worked hard during the first term in office. “INEC has done well in the past and present polls, they should continue in this direction, I believe we will get there,” he said.
Reacting also, Chime in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Chukwudi Achife, said the wide margin of Imoke’s triumph bore ample testimony to his popularity among the people which according to him, was occasioned by the high quality of governance he had been rendering in office before the elections.
He urged the governor-elect to sustain the firm in the path of rapid socio-economic development he had established in the state adding that the people had by their votes fully affirmed their support for his policies and initiatives.
On its part, the PDP in its congratulatory message signed by its acting National Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Baraje, described the election of Imoke as governor as a ‘sweet victory for the PDP’, stating that the party was the most accepted party by Nigerians.
Baraje said he was pleased with the outcome of the governorship election in the state, saying Imoke’s victory had shown that he was a popular governor.
Meanwhile, a national chairmanship candidate of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, who is the chairman of NEPAD and African Roundtable, said: “I have been following Imoke’s manner of conducting political business in Cross River State and hence felt more convinced that he would go places in Politics.”
He commands attention among the electorate because of his hard work and love for his people. I rejoice with him that he has made it back to power, this time by more popular votes.”
