The President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, has commended servants of God of Nigerian origin for their invaluable contributions to the development of the world through the propagation of the gospel thereby placing Nigeria at the vanguard of a revolution of moral and religious regeneration.

Speaking at the public presentation of a book titled: ‘Nigeria’s Leading Lights of the Gospel: Revolutionaries in Worldwide Christianity,’ authored by Mr. Femi Adelegan, in Abuja yesterday, Mark saidthe contribution of Nigerian priests to worldwide Christianity is literally changing its face, as faith that was once exported by white missionaries from Europe and America comes to draw its strength from the Southern Hemisphere.

The senate president, who was represented by his special adviser on Religious Matters, Rev. Vincent Asuquo, noted that the new publication was unique in terms of its contents, depth, compilation and purpose and, therefore, commended the author for his brilliant efforts at documenting the contributions of notable religious leaders for posterity and impartation of knowledge.

Mark, who said he was glad that the publication was presented at a time Nigeria was preparing to celebrate the nation’s centenary anniversary enjoined the populace to develop the culture of reading widely in order to learn from the successes of Nigerian heroes.

In his speech, former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, said the Church in Nigeria, had in the past few decades since the Great Revivals of the 1930s contributed significantly to the spiritual rejuvenation and societal advancement of the country.

He saluted Nigerian Christian leaders for rising unreservedly to intercede for the country and indeed the world, saying he was personally convinced that without the prayers of the Saints, the whole world may not have been able to engender the relative and precarious peace witnessed today.

Oyinlola described Adelegan as a dependable, honest and capable professional who has paid his dues in his different fields of endeavour, adding that ‘’as a tested and committed professional, the author has over the years built an enviable and excellent record of untainted service.

‘’Having worked closely with the author for a little over ten years, I am in a position to say that Femi has an unusual capacity for hard work and has proven to be a reliable and loyal gentleman that is blessed with traits and virtues worth imbibing by the growing generation. One notable attribute is that Femi does not leave you to guess where he stands on any particular divide.’’

Also speaking through the Secretary-General of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Dr. Musa Asake, the president of CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, commended the author for his brilliant efforts and prayed for greater divine wisdom for the author.
