The Council of the European Union (EU) has directed the Mission Commander of the EU Training Mission, General Francois Lecointre to ensure that the mission is launched by the middle of February to provide logistical support to the combat troops deployed by France, Nigeria and other African countries.
It also directed that a first batch of technical team should be sent into Bamako this week where the EUTM is also expected to train Mali’s Army.
The council, at the end of an emergency meeting in Brussels last week emphasised that the threat posed by terrorists in Mali is a global threat which requires an international coordinated effort to quench.
