Nigerian boxer at the Olympics

By Olawale Ajimotokan

It was not a good day for Nigeria Monday in boxing as one of its prospect for a medal- Lukman Lawal- has now been eliminated from the Olympic Games.

The result left some of the officials of the Nigeria Boxing Federation and Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) with misty eyes.

Lawal failed to advance to the next stage after following his loss to Almatbouli Ihab of Jordan in the heavyweight division in one of the bouts held at Excel Centre in London.

The Nigerian fighter lost by 19-7 on the cards after three rounds and effectively ended Nigeria’s quest to win a medal in boxing at the on going Olympics as all its two fighters have now been eliminated.

Despite the pre Games promises, Team Nigeria is yet to turn on the lights.

The poor outing of the boxers is on the heel of the dismal outing by the Table Tennis team where two of the players were also bundled out on Monday.
