The National Sports Commission (NSC) has set up a panel to investigate the allegations of corruption levelled against some of its staff by an amateur marathoner, Ms Esther Obiekwe.

Obiekwe had alleged last week that she was asked to give bribe in order to be part of the Nigerian contingent to the London 2012 Olympic Games.

The marathoner fondly called ‘the Running Banker’ had made sweeping allegations that were considered injurious to the corporate image of the commission, claiming among others, that nearly all the athletes to the London 2012 Olympics bribed their way to the Games.

She also accused some officials of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) of also asking for gratifications which she refused to give.

The investigative panel is headed by Justice Danlami Sanchi while other members include; Dr. Gloria Obajimi, DCP Mohammed Sani and a legal adviser. Mohammed Abdul-Sule is the secretary to the committee.

The Panel, which began sitting last week, will complete its task this week. Ms Obiekwe is expected to appear before the committee Monday afternoon to prove her allegations.
