An indication that the provisions of the Local Content Act is being implemented by the authority has emerged with the full involvement of indigenous freight forwarding firm, Talod Oceanair Freight Limited in the successful handling of the logistics and freighting documentation of an offshore rig into the country.
The 65-foot GSF Rig 140, which belongs to the world’s largest offshore drilling contractor, Transocean, successfully arrived at Lagos from Equatorial Guinea recently for repairs at the premises of Nigerdock, Snake Island , Lagos . The GSF Rig 140 is currently berthed at the Marina waterfronts from where Nigerdock will commence the repair work.
The arrival in Nigeria from Equatorial Guinea and the successful involvement of Talod Oceanair Freight Limited is seen as an attestation to the competence of Nigerian indigenous companies in the logistics and freight forwarding business.
The magnificent GSF Rig 140 is the second that Talod Oceanair Freight Limited will handle for Transocean. The management of the firm had earlier handled the freight for Adriatic 8 which also successfully underwent repairs in the country.
Chairman of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), who is also the Managing Director of Talod Oceanair Freight Limited, Alhaji Hakeem Olanrewaju, attributed the successful handling of the sophisticated 2,800 foot all-weather, twin-hulled semi-submersible drilling vessel, GSF Rig 140 to the cooperation that his company received from the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
“The successful handling of the rig in Nigeria is a further attestation of the competence of indigenous practitioners in line with the Local Content Act. We also impressed with the expertise of Nigerdock and the support that organisations like the PPMC, Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board are giving to indigenous players”, he said.
