Librarians have been tasked to embrace information technology and innovations in order to add value to the profession and enhance consumer satisfaction.
The charge was given by Chairman of the Information Technology Section of the Nigerian Library Association, Mr Felix Azubuike, while briefing the media ahead of the sixth national workshop of the Section, which holds at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, between October 8 and 12.
According to him, the forum, which is aimed at creating innovative libraries through use of computers, internet and cutting-edge technologies, has the theme 'Creating Innovative Libraries in Nigeria'.
Some of the sub-themes include 'Library Practice Today', 'Effective Information Retrieval', 'Enterprise Solutions' and 'Content Management'.
The workshop is targeted at heads of libraries and information centres, circulation librarians, serial librarians, cataloguers, systems librarians, library officers, acquisition librarians, webmasters and reference librarians.
