The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu, has signed performance agreements with the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Tunji Olaopa, and the heads of the five parastatals under the ministry’s supervision, as part of efforts to boost productivity and achieve the mandate of the ministry.

The parastatals are National Directorate for Employment (NDE), Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), National Productivity Centre, Industrial Arbitration Panel (IAP), and the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS).

Wogu, in his address, said the Ministry in collaboration with the National Planning Commission (NPC) would carry out a monthly assessment of the achievements of the parastatals.
“The goal of this exercise is the achievement of clearly identifiable and measurable milestones that would lead to the realisation of the transformation agenda as a solid foundation for sustained national development,” he said.

The key performance indicators for the ministry are industrial peace and harmony, job creation and employment, capacity building/skill development, social security protection for the vulnerable, labour safety, health, welfare and education, national productivity improvement and provision of policies, regulatory and administrative services in the labour sector.

Olaopa, who signed agreements with the directors in the ministry, said if the agreements are taken to their full course, the destiny of the nation would be changed and the future of the career of public servants and professionals would be secured.

"We would henceforth be held accountable for not only the quality of our day to day contributions, the competence and the commitment that go into our actions and the achievements but the impact we make going forward, " Olaopa added.
He noted that the ministry would become a celebrated model after assessing the level of commitment of the officials in the labour ministry.

“It is therefore with a deep sense of responsibility that I express our collective resolve and determination to rededicate ourselves to the vision and the transformation agenda of the Federal Government,” he said.
