Kano State Governor, Mallam Rabiu  Kwankwaso has commissioned the ultra modern office complex of the state Geographic Information System, KANGIS, constructed at the cost of about N283 million.

Speaking at the function, Governor Kwankwaso described the initiative as a significant watershed in land administration in the state, which will serve as a bank for updated data on land record, aerial/satellite images, engineering drawing and related geographical information.
He stated that KANGIS will prepare and issue certificates of occupancy and other certificates evidencing titles, issuance of rights of occupancy, production of Titled Data Plan and street naming/ house numbering.

In addition, the governor said it will ease property search and verification of land/ property records, assist in enhancing security as well as step up revenue generation for the government.
Kwankwaso therefore urged people in the state to patronize the new resource center which he said is only second to those of Abuja and Lagos, assuring that with this development, Certificates of Occupancy can be issued within two weeks.

He also appealed to the people to cooperate with the state committee on street naming and house numbering to ensure the success of its work, which he described as part of the administration’s urban renewal programme.

In his speech, the state Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Alhaji Muhammadu Nadu Yahya explained that KANGIS is a one-stop shop that is well-equipped for improved land management in Kano, which in turn will lead to bountiful socio-economic returns.
