Korean Ambassador Bestows Abdullahi, Others, Taekwondo Award

Sports Minister/Chairman National Sports Commission (NSC), Bolaji Abdullahi and 21 prominent Nigerians have been invested by the South Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Choi Jung Hyun for their contributions towards the growth of taekwondo in Nigeria.

Ambassador Choi, who at the weekend, described taekwondo as the culture of South Korea, said the recipients were considered in the light of their outstanding effort in the propagation of the game in Africa’s biggest nation.

He charged them to see the award as a challenge to do more, so that Nigeria attain the highest peak in the world in the game of taekwondo.

Choi assured that the Korean government would continue to be in the forefront of providing technical aid to Nigeria to help it sustain its position in the world in addition to presenting top athletes to the future Olympic Games.

Some of the recipients include the Director General NSC, Chief Patrick Ekeji, Dominic Bassey, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Director, Emmanuel Ikpeme, Super Eagles Chief Security Officer, ACP Gideon Akinsola and former Military Governor of Bauchi State, Late Brigadier General Joshua Madaki, who was given a posthumous award for his contributions to the sport.

Others were, the President of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) Jonathan Nnaji, Ghanaian Grand master, Kofi Anani, Omowa Omorege, Tayo Popola,  Ibrahim Yahuza, Ferguson Oluigbo, Emmanuel Peters Oghenejobor, Uche Nnebedum,Joyce Ezeala, Chika Chukwu Mereije and Usman Suleiman.

Agada Elijah Agada similarly received the juvenile athlete award.

It would be recalled that Korea on different occasions, held training programmes for NTF, within and outside the country and attached a coach to help Nigeria prepare for taekwondo leading to the last Olympic Games in London.
