Two weeks after securing his father’s release through the payment of N1.5 million, the son of the released father, who is a secondary school leaver, Iniemesit Sunday Akpan, is still being detained by his father’s abductors in Akwa Ibom State.

Sources told THISDAY Sunday that Iniemesit’s father, a businessman in Ikot Ekpene, Mr. Sunday Akpan, was kidnapped on August 3, by suspected kidnappers numbering about four who dressed in army uniform.

It was gathered that the kidnappers had trailed Akpan, a dealer in building materials, to his house when he closed from shop.

Akpan was said to have been abducted at his residence in Ikot Ekpene local government area of the state, just as he stepped out from his vehicle to open the entrance gate to his house.

When the wife who saw the scernario attempted to raise an alarm, the kidnappers reportedly threatened to shoot her as they immediately escaped with the husband at gunpoint to an unknown destination.

THISDAY gathered that after few days of the incident, the kidnappers opened contact with the family through a Pastor in Akpan’s church, demanding N30 million as ransom.

Sources close to the family disclosed that about N1.5 million was raised and given to Iniemesit to give to the kidnappers at a location in order to secure the release of his father.

Unfortunately, the kidnappers after collecting the money detained the son asking whether the money was groundnut, crayfish or chewing gum money.
However, the father was released and asked to go and look for the balance of the money for the release of his son.

However, efforts to get the state Police Command to react to the incident proved abortive.
