For N150 a month, paid by the community and local government council, some 15,000 citizens of Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State are now beneficiaries of the newly introduced community-based health insurance scheme.

Managed by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) it affords the poor the opportunity to receive quality health care at little or no cost.

At the flag-off of the programme in Dutsin-Ma, the first community to enjoy the scheme, Thursday, Health Minister, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, said the novel endeavour in healthcare financing was done to improve the affordability and accessibility of quality health services by the poor.
