The people of Katagum federal constituency in Bauchi State have called for the creation of 14 additional states.
The people who are also agitating for creation of Katagum state out of Bauchi state made the call on Saturday during the Peoples’ Public Session on the review of the 1999 Constitution held at the Emir’s palace, Azare, headquarters of Katagum LG.
They unanimously voted for section 8 of the Constitution to be amended to remove the ambiguities in the process for creation of more states.
The constituency emphasised that states creation must be done in order to bring parity to the number of states among the geo-[political zones and also voted against the six geo-political zones being recognised in the Constitution for administrative purpose.
They also supported an amendment of section 162 (2) be amended to abolish ‘state joint account’ so that allocation to Local Government Councils would be paid to them directly.
They Kicked against state police but voted for the adoption of the current structure and system in the Constitution.
