Comrade-Governor Oshiomhole

For the second week running, I have found myself talking about Edo State and Comrade-Governor Oshiomhole and for the right reason, I guess. First, it was the appointment of Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon as Chief of Staff and Prof. Julius Ihonvbere as Secretary to the State Government. Now it’s the appointment of my friend, Prince Kassim Afegbua, as Special Adviser, Media and Publicity. By appointing Afegbua as SA Media, I think Governor Oshiomhole would be getting two things for the price of one - or may be Afegbua would actually be getting the pay of two. Kassim is a political actor and media player.

As a politician, coming from the popular Afegbua family in Okpella, Edo North, Kassim made name as Director of Publicity of the National Democratic Party, later he was Director-General of the National Headquarters and also Acting National Chairman. He had tried his hand on magazine publishing and was keeping a regular column in Saturday Vanguard until his present appointment.

The prince from Okpella is also the Media Spokesman of former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida. The bit that confounds me is how Kassim maintains the balance between the two - working with IBB and remaining in touch with Oshiomhole, even working as Director of Publicity of the comrade’s re-election campaigns. Or is there a connect between IBB and Oshiomhole that we mere mortals don’t know or don’t see? Congratulations my brother, Afegbua.
